Every employer is responsible for the safety of his employees at work. They must provide a safe place of work, a safe system of work, proper equipment, proper training, proper clothing and indeed anything else which is reasonably practicable.

The duty imposed is so strict that virtually any accident at work can be attribted to some breach of this statutory duty. The Law makes it extremely difficult for an employer to escape liability for an accident to his employee whatever the circumstances.
